Mapua is blessed with abundant sunshine and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. As a result the area has become a haven for artists. Art trails take you to studios where potters, painters and sculptors display their works.

The climate is ideal for wine production and many award winning boutique wineries offer tastings and cellar door sales including, Neudorf, Seifried, Kahurangi, and Woollaston Estates. Local tour operators offer wine tours around the region.

This is also a great place to sample local grown fresh fruit and vegetables, and seafood in the many award winning cafes and restaurants. Nelson boasts more food business than any other city of its size.

The Abel Tasman National Park is a must visit with its isolated sandy beaches and stunning scenery and is accessible by water taxi, kayaking and tramping. Another must is a drive across the Takaka Hills to Golden Bay and Farewell Spit. Tourists will discover stunning scenery, a laid back life style and arts and crafts in this unspoilt and sparsely populated region.

The Nelson region also boasts some of the best trout fishing rivers in the world. Guided fishing trips can be booked including flying upstream by helicopters to remote fishing spots.
